Crash Test Boat Jury Rig
We have been working with the team from Yachting Monthly magazine on a new series called "Crash Test Boat". Over the next few months we'll be inflicting plenty of damage to an average 40ft cruising yacht to see what happens and what we can do as sailors to help mitigate any disasters.
Our third scenario follows on from our recent dismast as we attempt a jury rig! We had some expert advice from Paul Lees from Crusader Sails.
Using only the materials we had left on the boat from the dismast we put up the remaining mast stump and used the boom as a yard arm for our makeshift square rig sail.
We wouldn't win any awards for speed but we took control of the boat and were able to set our own course which means we could head to safety.
Footage like this has never been seen before and we'd love to hear your feedback and thoughts.
